DID YOU KNOW...Located near Corunna, Michigan is the largest
straw bale house in the world. Major Keith H. Wright (Ret)
and Mr. Roland Mikan have enclosed nearly 10,000 of the
11,873 square feet house with straw bales and mud (cobb)
for Wright and his children. This straw bale house project
has been in every surrounding newspaper, aired on World
News Now and numerous visitors from the U.S. and other countries.
Once the 60' X 61' garage was erected the pair enclosed
the entire structure with straw bales and cobb. Life expectancy
is 2500-3000 years, insulation factor is R-60 and the only
maintenance required is every 100 years one coat of linseed
oil is applied. The house is located 1 1/2 miles East of
the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds on Hibbard Road near Corunna,
Michigan.
